Living in an RV Full Time — Our Real Life
When people hear “full-time RV living,” the reactions tend to fall into two camps:
“Wow, that’s the dream! Traveling full-time, living free, chasing adventure.”
Or... “Oh no, I’m sorry. You must be doing that because you have to.”
The truth? For us — it’s neither. It’s a choice. And it works.
🏡 We Have a House — But This Is Home
We own a small home and some land back in Missouri. It’s a lovely place, and most of our “stuff” is there — but we’re rarely in it. Our official residence is in Florida, and that’s where our daily life happens. We both work here, have Florida driver’s licenses, and built a space that supports our lifestyle.
We live in a fifth wheel RV that we remodeled to fit our needs. We also just finished remodeling a truck camper, which we’ll use for traveling and exploring even more.
Our Florida property has a large pole barn that shelters the RV and gives us protection from the sun, storms, and heat. We also converted a shed on the property into a fully insulated space with a full bath and a full-size washer and dryer. That’s home — and we’re here because we want to be.
✨ Do I Miss a House?
Yes… and no.
Sure, I miss having some of my “things” — the familiar items that make a house feel like a home. But here’s the thing:
Things can burn. Things can flood. Things can blow away in a storm.
After years in law enforcement and emergency management, I’ve seen just how quickly people lose what they thought was secure. So we made the decision to live more simply, more flexibly.
Most of my sentimental or irreplaceable items are still tucked away safely in Missouri, but I don’t need them with me every day to feel at home.
🌪 Why We Live in an RV
Here’s why this lifestyle works for us:
It’s more affordable than a traditional home.
It’s easier to maintain — less space means less upkeep.
It’s mobile — if a hurricane is coming, we can move.
It’s peaceful — we live on 10 acres in Florida, less than 30 miles from the beach.
People sometimes picture RV living as messy, chaotic, or even desperate — but that couldn’t be further from the truth for us. Our setup is clean, intentional, and peaceful. It's a lifestyle that suits our values and our priorities.
🧭 We’re Not Alone
More and more people are choosing this way of life — not just in Florida, but across the country. We’re meeting fellow RVers who are full-timers, part-timers, seasonal travelers, or digital nomads. Some do it to save money. Some to travel. Some to simplify. Some to escape city life. There’s no one right reason — but there is one shared freedom.
🐾 And Yes — We RV with Our Dogs
We wouldn’t live this life without them. Our dogs are a huge part of why RV living is great for us. They love the space, the outdoor time, the adventures, and the flexible schedule just as much as we do. (More posts coming soon on how we travel with dogs — and what we’ve learned along the way.)
Final Thoughts
Living in an RV full-time isn’t always glamorous. It’s not always easy. But for us — it’s absolutely worth it.
We’ve created a lifestyle that gives us freedom, security, and peace of mind. And no, we’re not “roughing it.” We’ve made it home.
If you're considering the lifestyle or just curious, feel free to reach out or follow along. I’ll be sharing more posts soon about our RV remodels, tips for boondocking, how we travel with dogs, and what this lifestyle really looks like behind the scenes.
